Akbayan party-list Rep. Percival Cendaña on Thursday hit the Senate and the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) over their failure to support and act on the proposed P200 across-the-board wage hike.
Cendaña vowed to refile the wage hike bill in the 20th Congress.
The Senate and the House of Representatives passed their own versions of the measure with the Senate approving a P100 hike and Congress adopting a P200 wage increase.
Cendaña criticized the Senate’s inaction, emphasizing it had ample time and opportunity to adopt the House version to fast track the bill’s passage.
“If the Senate is serious [about increasing] the wages of the workers, it should have adopted the House version,” he said.
Cendaña slammed the LEDAC for failing to certify the wage hike measure as urgent, a move that could have accelerated its passage.
He also questioned the government, saying “the administration’s silence speaks volumes about their priorities—and unfortunately, workers are not among them.”
Despite the setback, Akbayan vowed to refile the measure in the incoming 20th Congress, affirming its commitment to improve labor welfare.
