The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday said that less than half of the political candidates and party-list groups in the last midterm elections submitted their Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE) ahead of the deadline for submissions at 5 p.m. today.
Of the 64 senatorial bets, only 21 were reported to have submitted their SOCE. Meanwhile, only 63 out of 156 party lists and 10 of the 29 political parties forwarded their documents to the poll body, according to Comelec Chairman George Garcia.
“There is no extension. We do not plan to give an extension to anyone who asks. That is the deadline, June 11,” Garcia said.
He added that the deadline for SOCE filing was announced “a long time ago.”
“Therefore, you have to face the consequences of non-filing of SOCE,” Garcia said.
SOCE submissions are accepted during weekdays and Saturdays, including holidays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Comelec Political Finance and Affairs Department in Intramuros, Manila.
Garcia also reminded candidates against submitting SOCEs via email or registered mail, citing the need for physical verification of original documents, signatures, and receipts.
