The private operator of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) has issued an apology for a one-hour power interruption at Terminal 3 early Wednesday morning.
The New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) said the power interruption at NAIA Terminal 3 scheduled on June 11, from 1:00 AM to 2:00 AM, was due to maintenance work on its electrical systems.
Some areas of the terminal experienced reduced lighting and air-conditioning during the interruption.
“This is part of our ongoing efforts to upgrade our systems and provide a better airport experience. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Thank you for your patience and understanding,” the NNIC said.
Power interruptions and brownouts always occur in NAIA.
Lawmakers suggested that the airport management must exercise technical oversight so these interruptions are minimized.
Last year, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said it would acquire additional generator sets to improve passenger comfort and address weak air conditioning at the airport.
The authority also considered temporarily renting generator sets until they have a permanent generator. This will help alleviate the heat at the airport until the purchasing process is complete.
Airport stakeholders are optimistic about the presence of NNIC to enhance the airport experience.
The government signed the concession agreement with NNIC for the improvement of NAIA, which is widely recognized as one of the world’s worst airports.
