Vice President Sara Duterte, through her legal team, said they remain “ready to confront” Articles of Impeachment should senators proceed with the trial amid mounting political pressure for them to act on the case.
In a statement released yesterday, the VP Duterte defense team said it would “refrain from commenting on matters that are exclusive and internal to the Senate,” but reiterates its firm position against the impeachment process.
“The impeachment process must never be weaponized to harass, silence, or eliminate political opponents. It is a constitutional mechanism, not a political tool,” the defense team said.
“Nevertheless, should the Senate choose to proceed, we stand ready to confront the charges and expose the baselessness of the accusations against the Vice President,” it added.
