Domagoso seeks civic engagement to preserve Jones Bridge

Manila Mayor-elect Francisco ‘Isko’ Moreno Domagoso is calling for Manileños’ active role in preserving the restoration of the iconic Jones Bridge in Binondo-Intramuros area.

He said this during the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Philippine-China Bilateral Relations at Pasig River Esplanade on Saturday.

“The local government then and the national government now have fixed it. Keeping this place clean is a big matter of citizen participation so that we can offer it to the next generation,” Domagoso said in Filipino.

He described the event as a ‘good start,’ but recognizes it is still a ‘long way to go.’

Domagoso lauded the vision of First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos that will develop the riverside of several cities including San Juan, Quezon City, Pasig City, and Marikina.

He also thanked President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., the Chinese government, and the Filipino-Chinese community for their overwhelming support, which is part of the Chinatown Revitalization Project, restoring Binondo District.

In 2019, Domagoso inaugurated the newly-refurbished bridge that boasts aesthetic upgrades such as solar-powered studs and Paris-inspired lampposts, among others.

The earlier initiative which was completed in just two months was accomplished with the assistance of the Philippine Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Apart from beautification, he emphasized that the safety and security of everyone remains his priority.
