Education Secretary Juan Edgardo ‘Sonny’ Angara said he is looking forward to smoother operations in public schools on June 16 when classes resume for most students despite periodic rains due to the onset of the wet season.
Angara was interviewed Monday during the launch of the Department of Education’s (DepEd) ‘Brigada Eskwela’ drive at the Barihan Elementary School in Malolos, Bulacan with President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr. leading the charge.
“It has been raining but not as heavy compared to what we experienced last year, in 2024, when we opened. Almost the entire Metro Manila, Cavite—the Calabarzon region—were inconvenienced by the rains. So, it’s better to reopen early,” Angara said in a videoclip shared by the Philippine News Agency.
The DepEd chief encouraged teachers, parents and students to get ready for the resumption of classes next week. The ‘Brigada Eskwela’ runs from June 9 to 13 with participating education stakeholders and volunteers preparing public schools nationwide for the opening of classes.
