Reflect on what strengthens us—PBBM on Eid’l Adha

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday joined the entire Islamic world in observing Eid’l Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) which is a public holiday for Muslim-Filipinos.

“Beyond the event lies a deeper truth that what brings us closest to the Almighty is the giving up of certainty and the letting go of pride,” the President said in a statement released by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO).

For her part, Vice President Sara Duterte expressed hopes that “the spirit of Eid’l Adha would serve as a reminder to Filipinos of the essence of courage, generosity, and compassion for others.”

“The spirit of Eid al-Adha serves as a reminder of courage, generosity, and compassion—qualities that are very important at this time,” the Vice President said.

In his message posted online, Senate President Francis Escudero expressed good wishes for the Muslims.

“I join our Muslim brothers and sisters in commemorating Eidul Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice. May the strong faith and sacrifice shown by Ibrahim in obedience to Allah’s will inspire us all to be good citizens,” he said in Filipino.

On the other hand, Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez reaffirmed the legislature’s commitment to “support policies that honor diversity and uphold religious freedoms.”

Romualdez said the celebration of Eid al-Adha presents an opportunity for reflection not only on faith and obedience but also on the duty of leaders to safeguard freedoms that allow every Filipino to practice their beliefs without fear or prejudice.

“Today, we join our Muslim brothers and sisters across the Philippines and the world in commemorating Eid al-Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice – one of the most sacred celebrations in Islam,” the House leader said.

“Eid al-Adha reminds us of the power of obedience to a higher calling, the importance of selflessness and the strength found in unity. These are values that resonate not only within the Islamic tradition but also across all faiths and cultures. They are values that bind us together as a people, regardless of belief or background,” he added.

Romualdez emphasized that the lesson behind the holiday calls on all public officials to exercise servant leadership and pursue justice in their work.

“The story of Eid al-Adha speaks of sacrifice made out of trust and devotion. In today’s world, this message remains relevant. It calls on all of us in government and society to serve with sincerity, to uphold justice and to always act in the best interest of the people we represent,” he said.
