Gov’t to roll out housing rental

THE Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development wants to pilot its housing rental inside the University of the Philippines, Diliman in Quezon City under the Marcos Jr. administration’s expanded Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino (4PH) program.

Housing czar Jose Ramon Aliling, along with the other DHSUD officials, recently met with UP President Angelo Jimenez and other university officials to discuss the rental housing scheme for UP constituents.

“We will provide the necessary technical assistance to ensure the success of this collaboration. Once approved, DHSUD stands committed to fund the land development portion for the pilot project,” Aliling said.

The proposed pilot project has the support of the Home Development Mutual Fund or Pag-IBIG Fund.

The housing czar tasked his officials to work closely with the UP management for the smooth implementation of the proposed pilot rental housing project under 4PH.

Aliling earlier said the DHSUD is open to all feasible modalities to make 4PH more inclusive and sustainable, including rental housing.

“We must exhaust all feasible modalities under 4PH. The more schemes available for our kababayans (fellow Filipinos), depending on the need and their capacity, the better,” Aliling said.

The DHSUD is looking at families within the lower income deciles as among the targeted beneficiaries.

Aliling said the 4PH program will be recalibrated to include horizontal developments or subdivision-like housing projects.

Before this, 4PH was focused only on vertical or condominium-type developments.
