Cebu governor-elect Pam Baricuatro advised outgoing governor Gwendolyn Garcia to just “savor the last days of her administration” as she prepares to take over the leadership of Visayas’ richest province.
Baricuatro issued this comment on Wednesday after Garcia filed an electoral protest, challenging her victory in the recent 2025 midterm elections.
“Savor the last days of your administration. Officially you stay until June 30, 11:59:59 AM — but at exactly 12:00 noon, the people of Cebu will officially inaugurate me as the new governor of the province,” Baricuatro told Garcia.
Garcia said she is pursuing an electoral case on behalf of her supporters. The seasoned politician claimed there were votes intended for her that were not credited, which she hopes the Commission on Elections (Comelec) could shed light on.
Baricuatro, however, dismissed this argument. “There is no room for refusal or drama. The will of the Cebuano people must be respected and upheld,” she said.
The Comelec has yet to respond to Garcia’s electoral protest, pending its receipt of an official copy.
