NHCP, AFP stage ‘Musikalayaan 2025’ ahead of Independence Day

The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), in collaboration with the Civil Relations Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), is set to present Musikalayaan 2025 on Thursday, June 5, 2025 at the Rizal Park Open-Air Auditorium in Manila.

Organized by the AFP through its Media and Civil Affairs Group (MCAG) under the leadership of Col. Francel Margareth Padilla—who also serves as military spokesperson—the event highlights the theme “Pagtatanghal para sa Karagatan ng Pilipinas: Our Seas, Our Rights, Our Future.”

The production aims to raise public awareness about the significance of protecting the West Philippine Sea and upholding the country’s maritime sovereignty. This initiative is one of the prelude events to the upcoming 127th Philippine Independence Day celebration.

“This musical theater play will serve as an avenue for defense agencies to enjoin the public to be proud of a nation blessed with a history of valor and gallantry,” Padilla said.

Through the power of music, the AFP hopes to forge a deeper connection with the public and inspire greater appreciation for national sovereignty and maritime heritage, she added.

The play will feature musical and dance performances by uniformed personnel from various services, including the Philippine Army, Navy, Air Force, National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, and the Philippine Coast Guard.

Also joining the lineup are the Philippine Army Marching Band, the Indayaw Dance Company from Signal Village National High School in Taguig City, and artist-reservists from the AFP.

Among the featured artist-reservists are: Sgt. Geneva Cruz (Air Force), 1st Lt. Ronnie Liang (Army), Sgt. Khimo Goemon Gumatay (Air Force), Sgt. Ramona Cecilia Muñoz (Air Force), MU2 Ernani Lazaro M. Cuenco (Navy), and 2nd Lt. Rocco Nacino (Nursing Service).

Musikalayaan 2025 is free and open to the public. It will also be broadcast live via DWDD 1134 kHz AFP Radio, enabling audiences across the country to take part in the patriotic celebration.
