Outgoing Cebu governor Gwendolyn Garcia filed an electoral protest Tuesday over her recent loss in the 2025 elections, claiming that some of the votes intended for her were not credited.
In her first post-election appearance, Garcia said she will contest the over 4,100 clustered precincts, casting doubt on the surprising victory of governor-elect Pam Baricuatro.
“I truly believe that the result for the gubernatorial election here in Cebu did not reflect the honest will of the people,” Garcia said defiantly, arguing that her protest is a show of good faith to her people.
The seasoned politician also claimed they have proof of votes which were reportedly allocated to her opponent, but she did not discuss it publicly in detail.
“This is a technical and software proven evidence,” she said.
Garcia hopes the Commission on Elections will respond to her electoral protest “with dispatch” and settle the matter as soon as possible.
