Great catch! PDEA hails Bataan fishers for reporting floating ‘shabu’

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Tuesday lauded 10 fishermen from Bataan for turning over P1.5 billion worth of shabu found floating off the Masinloc Sea in Zambales.

PDEA Central Luzon director Jigger Montallana said the fishermen discovered 222.655 kilos of shabu floating in the western part of Masinloc Sea last May 29 at around 5:30 p.m.

The fishermen turned over the illegal drugs to authorities on Monday, June 2, at 4:05 p.m. when they returned from their fishing activity.

Montallana said the shabu with an estimated street value of P1.5 billion was contained in 10 sacks holding 223 assorted vacuum-sealed transparent plastic packs.

He said the PDEA agents in Bataan and Zambales are now closely coordinating with law enforcement agencies and the concerned local governments.

“The PDEA will continuously monitor all suspicious activities and remain steadfast in its commitment to eradicating drug smuggling in Central Luzon,” Montallana said.

He commended the fishermen for their responsible actions and ordered a full investigation into the origin of the drugs.
