‘Habagat’ to bring less heavy rains, but scattered showers persist

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced early Tuesday that the southwest monsoon, locally known as ‘habagat,’ is no longer expected to bring heavy rainfall across Luzon, but rainshowers are still expected in some areas.

In its final weather advisory issued at 5:00 a.m., PAGASA said that while the threat of widespread heavy rains has diminished, ‘habagat’ will still bring scattered rains and thunderstorms to several areas in the next 24 hours.

These include the Ilocos Region, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, and Pampanga.

“PAGASA Regional Services Division will continue to issue local thunderstorm advisories, rainfall advisories, or heavy rainfall warnings as needed,” the state weather bureau said.

Residents in affected areas are advised to remain cautious, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas, as thunderstorms and sudden heavy rain showers could still occur.

The intertropical convergence zone, meanwhile, will continue to affect weather conditions in parts of Mindanao, including Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Sultan Kudarat, South Cotabato, Sarangani, Davao Occidental, and Davao Oriental.

The rest of the country may experience localized thunderstorms.
