Despite health officials saying there is no cause for alarm over mpox, the Cebu City government has created an inter-agency task force to monitor the situation.
Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia on Monday announced that four suspected mpox cases are under observation in the city.
The individuals are currently in isolation while the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) awaits confirmatory test results.
Garcia signed an executive order creating the task force on June 2, assigning the City Health Department to lead the response.
The Cebu City Public Information Office (PIO) in a statement said the task force will oversee case monitoring and ensure coordinated efforts among relevant agencies.
Garcia also urged the City Council to draft ordinances that would establish an emergency disaster response plan related to mpox.
While the suspected cases remain unconfirmed, the mayor emphasized that there is no immediate danger to the public. He said the patients are being managed with appropriate health protocols, with no indication of widespread transmission.
