Marbil officially retires as Torre takes over PNP

President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. led on Monday the change of command ceremony at the Philippine National Police (PNP) as General Nicolas Torre III takes over the organization upon the retirement of immediate predecessor General Rommel Francisco Marbil.

In his speech, Marbil thanked President Marcos for his trust and confidence in implementing his vision for the police force. The PNP under Marbil was recognized for playing key roles in ensuring peaceful conduct of the recent 2025 midterm elections and cracking down on illegal offshore gaming activities.

Marbil also highlighted the PNP’s accomplishments in preventing bloodshed while enforcing the government’s campaign against illegal drugs, as well as in the manhunt of high-profile personalities facing serious charges, including former mayor Alice Guo and megachurch leader Apollo Quiboloy.

“Cops never die. They simply disappear in style,” Marbil said in his retirement speech, as he congratulated Torre for succeeding him in leading the PNP.

Torre, in his inaugural speech, said he aims to build on the accomplishments of Marbil at the PNP. He also vowed to lead a responsive police force, with high morale among the men and women and uniform, and promoting continuous modernization.

“Under my leadership, actions will be rewarded. ‘Pogi points’ are not enough,” Torre said. He likewise acknowledged the public’s active participation in policing and pledged to strengthen the PNP’s partnership with the communities it serves.
