AGRI party-list Rep. Wilbert Lee on Sunday welcomed the partnership between the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Mercury Drug Corp. to help many poor Filipinos in availing medicines.
“I am glad that the government and the private sector are helping one another to ease the burden of our fellowmen when it comes to health concerns. We have long been pushing for this. I thank that our advocacy has materialized,” he said in a statement.
The DSWD earlier said 92 Mercury Drug outlets in various regions is set to accept guarantee letters (GLs) from the beneficiaries of the agency’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation and Ayuda para sa Kapos ang Kita Program.
Participating mercury drug outlets will accept the GLs issued by the DSWD central office and field offices in the National Capital Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN and Caraga.
In January 2024, Lee principally authored House Bill 9797 seeking to establish a medicine voucher program to help indigent Filipinos have access to medicines from government hospitals, accredited drug stores and other private establishments needed for their medical treatment.
