Authorities arrested a former high-ranking officer of the New People’s Army (NPA) following a joint operation on May 28, 2025 in Sitio Dumalaguing, Impasug-ong, Bukidnon.
According to military, the operation was carried out by the 8th Infantry Battalion and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Bukidnon Provincial Forensic Unit (PFU).
The suspect—identified as Anthony Gayento, also known as “Gab” or “Jano”—was a former commanding officer of a unit under the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC).
He faces multiple charges, including two counts of frustrated murder and five counts of attempted murder. The warrants for his arrest were issued by Judge Isobel Baroso, Acting Presiding Judge of RTC Branch 10, 10th Judicial Region.

Brigadier Gen. Seigfred Tubalado, Commander of the 403rd Infantry Brigade, commended the operation, emphasizing that Gayento had been under surveillance due to his alleged involvement in high-profile atrocities that disrupted communities and endangered lives.
“Gayento had long been a subject of surveillance due to his involvement in high-profile atrocities committed that have terrorized communities and affected innocent lives,” Tubalado said.
Gayento surrendered peacefully when confronted by authorities. He was informed of his rights and is now in custody at the CIDG Bukidnon PFU headquarters in Malaybalay City.
Major Gen. Michele Anayron Jr., Commander of the 4th Infantry Division (4ID), hailed the successful operation as a testament to the government’s commitment to peace and justice.
“The arrest sends a strong message to all remnants of the NPA that the law will go after them no matter how long it takes. This demonstrates our commitment to the rule of law and put to justice those who threaten the safety of our people,” Anayron said.
“To the remaining NPA leaders and members, the government still offers avenues for your reintegration. It’s time for you to lay down your arms and take part in building a peaceful and progressive future,” the commander added.
Authorities reiterated their call for active NPA members to surrender, promising reintegration support and emphasizing the government’s pursuit of lasting peace in the region.
