‘No special treatment’ on Teves case, says DOJ

The Department of Justice (DOJ) said on Sunday that the case of former Negros Oriental 3rd District Rep. Arnolfo ‘Arnie’ Teves Jr. will not be given special treatment.

The DOJ made this remark following the request of Teves for speedy trial of his cases.

In an exclusive interview with Manila Standard, Justice Undersecretary Raul Vasquez stressed that “his case is equally important as other cases involving ordinary accused.”

“He would be treated as an ordinary detention prisoner. The schedule of his cases will be determined by the dockets of the courts and prosecutors. His case is equally important as other cases involving ordinary accused. No special treatment,” he said.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) also noted that the former lawmaker shall be staying in a regular cell used by other individuals in the Building 14, New Bilibid Prison, Muntinlupa City.

Earlier, Teves appealed for the quick processes of the charges filed against him.

He is charged with violation of 10 counts of murder, 12 counts of frustrated murder, and four counts of attempted murder under the Revised Penal Code.
