200 PDLs moved from Bilibid to Sablayan—BuCor

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) reported Sunday it has transferred 200 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City to the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Occidental Mindoro, as part of its ongoing decongestion program.

BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. said the transfer, safely completed on Friday night, supports the agricultural workforce of SPPF and is in preparation for the planned closure of NBP by 2028.

OFF TO WHERE THE GRASS IS GREENER. With shaven heads, exactly 200 inmates or persons deprived of liberty of the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City, Metro Manila are shipped to the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm in Occidental Mindoro, pursuant to the NBP’s continuing decongestion program and in preparation for its eventual closure in 2028. BuCor chief Gergorio Catapang Jr. said the transferees could bolster the agricultural capabilities of the Sablayan jail facility.

Meanwhile, Catapang also ordered his officials to implement comprehensive safety measures in all facilities amid the onset of the rainy season. These include inspecting and repairing roofs, clearing gutters and drainage systems, trimming trees, and ensuring emergency power supplies are ready.

He emphasized that these precautions will help minimize risks posed by heavy rainfall, safeguarding both inmates and staff. Catapang also urged his team to remain alert by closely monitoring weather advisories and responding proactively to any flood warnings.
