Rewards await young ‘Palaro’ gold medalists from BARMM

The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) is set to reward two of its young athletes after winning gold medals at the recently concluded ‘Palarong Pambansa’ in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.

BARMM Education Minister Mohagher Iqbal said Keiffer Lamban, an elementary school-grader will be rewarded a cash prize incentive of P100,000 for bagging the gold medal in the ‘shot put’ event. He will receive another P20,000 for winning the bronze in the ‘discus throw’ category.

Dr. Yusoph Amino, director for Physical Education and Sports Development, said Kiefer Seth Ven of Cotabato City will also be given P100,000 for his gold medal run in the elementary boys ‘table tennis’ individual category. It will be funded by the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education.

Iqbal said all athletes from BARMM are credited for their “sacrifices, perseverance, determination and their will to survive the national sports competitions with their heads held up high with honor for the Bangsamoro people—whether they won or have lost.”

BARMM took home a total of 10 medals at the regular games (2 golds, 3 silvers, and 5 bronzes) ranked 18th overall among the participating regions. It also bagged five medals at the parasports (3 golds, 1 silver, and 1 bronze), ranking ninth overall.

The 65th Palarong Pambansa was held from May 24 to May 31, 2025 at the Marcos Stadium Laoag City and other venues across Ilocos Norte.
