The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will give P80,000 in livelihood assistance to “Rose,” the woman who went viral after being seen crawling out of a Makati sewer earlier this week.
The amount will help her start a ‘sari-sari’ store, which is said to be her preferred entrepreneurial project.
Rose was taken to the DSWD Pag-abot Processing Center in Pasay for assessment.
She has since met with Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian, telling him the real story behind her viral photos.
Rose, who collects recyclable garbage and sells them for a living, told Gatchalian she went into the drainage after a small blade cutter she uses for her daily collection fell in.
The Social Welfare Secretary assured her that in line with the directives of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the DSWD will extend all the needed help she needs to have a good life.
According to Gatchalian, a social worker’s assessment found Rose was capable of fulfilling her dream of having a store.
