LTFRB summons jeepney operator tagged in collision along Cainta

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Calabarzon has issued a show-cause order against a public utility jeepney operator involved in a multiple-vehicle collision that injured seven people along Felix Avenue in Cainta, Rizal last May 28.

“President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has been clear in directing all transport agencies to uphold commuter safety and enforce strict accountability among operators and drivers,” LTFRB chief Teofilo Guadiz III said in a statement.

“This is our response. We are implementing that directive and holding those responsible to account,” he added.

The jeepney (DVR-757) operated by Tanay Binangonan Cainta Sta. Lucia Transport Cooperative was seen in a CCTV footage crashing into several vehicles, including two multi-purpose vehicles and a motorcycle at 8 a.m.

The operator was ordered to appear at a hearing scheduled on June 6 at 2 p.m. at the LTFRB IV-A in Lipa City, Batangas and submit a written explanation as to why its certificate of public convenience should not be suspended, revoked or canceled for employing a reckless driver.

“Operators must ensure that their drivers are qualified, disciplined, and trained to protect, not endanger the public,” Guadiz said.

“We are doing our part to deliver on the President’s order by ensuring public safety is non-negotiable,” he noted.
