The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is continuing its preparations for the EDSA Rebuild Project, which is set to begin on June 13.
On Thursday, Victor Nuñez, the MMDA Traffic Discipline Office Director for Enforcement, met with traffic heads from local governments in Metro Manila to discuss traffic mitigation measures that will be implemented during the EDSA Rebuild.
The MMDA earlier announced it will implement traffic mitigation measures to alleviate the expected road congestion during the rebuilding of the 23.8-kilometer highway.
The EDSA Rebuild is part of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s infrastructure program called Build, Better, More (BBM).
On the same day, Nuñez and MMDA General Manager Procopio Lipana met with leaders of various motorcycle organizations to discuss the agency’s policies and gather their suggestions.
The proposal was made to create an exclusive lane in the outer lane of EDSA for motorcycle riders, who will be prohibited from using flyovers and underpasses during the rehabilitation
They also discussed the installation of concrete barriers for the EDSA Bus Lane and rules concerning the No Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP).
The MMDA assured the groups that footage from CCTV cameras would be reviewed and validated before any notice of violation is sent to the registered address of the violators.
The agency expects cooperation from the groups and local government units (LGUs) to ensure the project’s success and smooth implementation.
The leaders of the motorcycle groups urged their members to adhere to the designated speed limits and other traffic laws to avoid violations.
