Authorities intercepted Wednesday a traveler at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 for possessing over ₱13 million worth of methamphetamine commonly known as ‘shabu.’
The departing passenger bound for Bacolod was arrested by members of the Police Aviation Security Group and the NAIA Drug Interdiction Task Group after they discovered the illegal substance concealed inside a milk carton box.
During x-ray screening, a carton box packed in a pink bag raised suspicions. Upon further inspection, officials found multiple plastic sachets containing a white crystalline substance.
A K9 unit and field testing conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency confirmed that the substance was methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as shabu.
The seized drugs weighed approximately 2,024 grams and had a standard value exceeding ₱13.7 million.
The passenger, a woman, was immediately arrested for violating Section 26 (Attempt to Transport) in relation to Section 5 of Article II of Republic Act 9165, also known as the “Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.”
“Age or appearance won’t protect those who break the law. The Avsegroup, in coordination with airport authorities, remains relentless in detecting and intercepting dangerous substances before they reach our communities,” said Avsegroup director Brig. Gen. Christopher Abecia.
