Airport authorities intercepted a woman traveler who was found in possession of a gun keychain, a banned item.

“An object resembling a firearm triggered an alert on the X-ray monitor at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, prompting swift action from Security Screening Officers (SSOs),” stated the Office for Transportation Security (OTS).

The prohibited item was discovered inside the checked baggage of the passenger who was bound for Antique via Philippine Airlines Flight PR 2905. It was intercepted at the Baggage Make-up Area.

This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of the OTS to enhance civil aviation security and ensure a smooth travel experience for all passengers.

In line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to improve the overall passenger experience, the OTS continues to issue public reminders concerning items that are restricted or prohibited in both carry-on and checked baggage.

Under the leadership of Department of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, the OTS has increased vigilance in all security screening operations.

Administrator Arthur Bisnar emphasized the importance of public awareness and cooperation with transportation security policies and procedures.

“Even seemingly harmless items, such as novelty keychains shaped like firearms, can raise security concerns and cause unnecessary delays. We ask for the public’s understanding and support to create a more pleasant airport environment for all travelers,” Bisnar stated.

Standard interception procedures were carried out by SSOs Teodosio Michel and Diana Marie Eco. The item was properly documented and handed over to the Philippine National Police – Aviation Security Group for appropriate disposition.

Passengers are reminded to thoroughly review the list of prohibited items before their scheduled travel to avoid bringing any objects that could be mistaken for weapons or pose a potential security threat.
