The Bureau of Immigration (BI), in coordination with the Commission on Filipino Overseas (CFO), has stepped up its campaign against fake travel documents, warning that human trafficking syndicates are becoming more sophisticated.
CFO Secretary Dante Ang II said they discovered that some travelers are using fake CFO certificates, bogus job contracts, and fake overseas work permits.
He emphasized that the public needs to stay alert and to deal only with legitimate travel and recruitment agencies.
Meanwhile, immigration authorities warned of incidents involving people posing as church missionaries but are actually being recruited for illegal jobs abroad.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said they have tightened inspections at airports and seaports, while enhancing their new system.
The bureau will also add personnel and biometric systems at airports, continuing to coordinate with the CFO, Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), and law enforcement agencies to quickly identify fake documents before passengers leave the country.
