Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla on Tuesday said they shall be installing an advanced passenger information system to deport wanted individuals before landing in the country.
He made this remark during the border control inspection at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City.
“We have an advanced passenger information system and we are looking at other security measures, so that we can know if we have any arrivals who should not enter our country and we can then board them again,” he said in Filipino.
“Besides that, the identification of the person, it is very fast, the process is really like that… no more human intervention,” the Justice chief added.
Remulla noted it shall ensure that criminal records will be known upon scanning of their passports.
Among their priorities include e-gates for faster check-in process of passengers, reducing the waiting time to 20-30 minutes, as well as the efficiency of time and motion of immigration system management, according to him.
He thanked Transport Secretary Vince Dizon for the proactive measures integrating the needs of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in airport planning.
Further, he said that the private sector that operates the airport is cooperative with the government.
15 counters will also be dedicated to the needs of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) while specialists from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will be present in case of trafficking incidents.
