Filipino folk singer Freddie Aguilar has died. He was 72.
The news was shared to Manila Standard Tuesday morning by lawyer George Briones, general counsel of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP).
Aguilar was a former national executive vice president of PFP.
He reportedly died at around 1:30 a.m. on May 27, 2025 at the Philippine Heart Center. He is survived by his wife Jovie and their children.
Aguilar was best known for his rendition of “Bayan Ko” and for his song “Anak,” which sold 33 million copies worldwide and translated into other languages.
He was appointed Presidential Adviser on Culture and the Arts by President Rodrigo Duterte and was made a Member of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
