Outgoing senator Ramon ‘Bong’ Revilla, Jr. is preparing to file cyberlibel complaints against individuals accused of spreading false information that he says damaged his reputation ahead of the 2025 elections.
“Right now, the camp of Senator Revilla is looking at the possibility of filing about five to 10 cyberlibel cases against personalities on Facebook, social media, vloggers, and those who have their own websites, who have spread fake news about Senator Bong, which he attributes to be the reason why he landed only 14th in the senatorial elections,” lawyer Raymond Fortun, the senator’s legal counsel, said during a press conference on Monday.
Fortun clarified that the senator has no pending cases in any court and was previously acquitted of all charges linked to the pork barrel scam.
The lawyer added that despite these acquittals, some individuals and groups circulated false claims that the Sandiganbayan ordered Revilla to return P124.5 million.
“This is a vicious lie with a clear and malevolent intent to damage Senator Revilla’s name and reputation. These evil-minded individuals and groups succeeded in their plan but they will be made to answer for their misdeeds before the courts of law,” he said.
According to Fortun, Revilla consulted with his family before deciding to take legal action to protect their name.
He emphasized that the effort also seeks to discourage anonymous attacks made under the protection of digital platforms.
“I have been told not to disclose the names of these individuals at this time because there’s a need to vet them, but Senator Revilla will be coordinating with the NBI to find out the bona fides of these people because others are only using pseudonyms,” he revealed.
“Definitely you will be traced through the active cooperation of Facebook and other online agencies and your whereabouts will be discovered,” Fortun warned the perpetrators.
In previous elections, Revilla placed either first or second, according to his camp.
However, Fortun said that in 2019, during the height of his legal battles, Revilla dropped to 11th place, something they considered understandable.
In the 2025 elections, despite being cleared of charges, he finished 14th, which his team attributes to the renewed spread of falsehoods.
