MAP backs Marcos’ Cabinet shakeup, likens move to corporate reset

The Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) on Thursday echoed messages of support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s decision to reset the members of his Cabinet, saying it “underscores the value of principled leadership and accountability.”

In a statement, MAP said they understand the President’s move to reorganize key positions in his administration, citing that similar actions are common among chief executive officers in the private sector to improve organizational performance.

“A CEO needs to make difficult calls, such as replacing talents, with the primary objective of improving the performance of the organization,” the group said in a statement signed by MAP President Alfredo Panlilio.

“Difficult as it may be, the call of leadership is to make such hard decisions in the interest of establishing meritocracy and encouraging performance,” they emphasized.

The business group expressed hope that President Marcos would appoint individuals capable of effectively executing his government’s plans.

“We trust that capable, proactive, and committed individuals will be empowered and work together as a cohesive team to execute the nation’s plans to uplift the lives of all Filipinos and move us closer to the outcomes our people deserve,” MAP added.

Earlier this week, President Marcos hinted at plans for a Cabinet revamp. By late Wednesday evening, the Presidential Communications Office announced he has asked all members of his official family to tender their courtesy resignations ““to realign government with the people’s expectations.”

Since then, 27 Cabinet secretaries have so far tendered their respective courtesy resignations, including Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin and key members of the economic team such as Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, Finance Secretary Ralph Recto, and Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan, to name a few.
