Netizens roast Kitty Duterte over self-absorbed remarks at campaign rally

Veronica ‘Kitty’ Duterte, the youngest daughter of former president Rodrigo Duterte, has drawn backlash on social media over her perceived self-absorbed statements made at a PDP-Laban campaign rally in Quezon City that she attended on Sunday.

“I am here now because they took from us, from all of us, most of all from me, my father… Instead of addressing crime, corruption, and poverty, this administration is prioritizing ruining my family and all of its allies,” Kitty was quoted as saying in Filipino.

Among the online sentiments receiving hundreds of shares and engagements are those of Lean Porquia, son of slain activist Jory Porquia, who was brutally killed by armed men in Iloilo City during the Duterte patriarch’s presidential term.

“Hi, Kitty Duterte. Your father’s government killed my father. It is only right that your executioner and murderer of a father is jailed,” Lean said. “Your family should be prosecuted because you are thieves, abusers, and killers,” he added.

Another critic pointed out Kitty’s choice of words in a news social media card quoting her.

“Kitty Duterte really said ‘most of all from me’ as if her feelings and welfare are most important and above anybody else’s. You are not special,” the online user said.

In reaction to a separate quote card of Kitty, who was reminiscing about her father’s administration, a social media user said “the narrative doesn’t apply to the 30,000 families that had at least one member killed by your supposed vigilante cops.”

The elder Duterte is currently detained by the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands over allegations of murder as a crime against humanity in relation to thousands who were summarily executed during his war on drugs.
