Senator Grace Poe on Sunday called for a full investigation into the recent vehicle crash at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 and stressed the need to assist those affected.
“The spate of car crashes and other vehicular incidents in the last few weeks brings worrying thoughts: How safe are our roads?” she said.
In a statement, Poe urged authorities to prioritize the welfare of the victims and ensure accountability in the incident.
“These cases may be accidents, but many accidents can be prevented or mitigated through proactive measures,” she said.
Poe renewed her push for the establishment of a Philippine Transportation Safety Board to serve as the sole agency responsible for transportation incident investigations.
She emphasized the urgent need for a central authority that will examine all transport-related accidents across land, air, and sea.
“The alarming statistics of road mishaps and fatalities calls for the implementation of proactive measures to reduce if not totally curb the accidents,” she noted.
The senator added it is no longer enough to treat each incident as isolated, urging long-term solutions to address systemic safety gaps.
Poe, meanwhile, thanked Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon and New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. president Ramon Ang for their swift response to the crash.
“Prompt response by all concerned bodies is imperative in this situation,” she said.
