Veteran actor, director Ricky Davao, 63

Seasoned actor and director Ricky Davao died last Thursday following complications related to cancer. He was 63.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Ricky Davao. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his children and loved ones, after bravely facing complications related to cancer,” his daughter, Ara Davao, wrote in a post in her Instagram account.

Davao, whose real name is Frederick Charles Caballes Dabao, was a prominent figure in Philippine film, television, and theater.

“For more than four decades, he dedicated his life to the craft of acting and directing. His remarkable body of work and award-winning performances have left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire,” she said.

Known for his versatility as an actor, he played a wide range of roles—from dramatic leads and father figures to complex antagonists—and later transitioned into directing, earning accolades in various mediums.

Throughout his prolific career, Davao was celebrated for both his talent and professionalism in working with generations of actors and directors in the industry. His work earned him acting awards from Gawad Urian, FAMAS, and the Metro Manila Film Festival.

Beyond the screen and stage, Davao was known as a devoted father, brother, son, and friend.

“We are deeply grateful for your prayers, love, and kind messages during this difficult time,” the statement added.
