THE interagency Motorcycle Taxi Technical Working Group (TWG) has sanctioned industry player Move It for violating fleet limits and failing to comply with mandatory reporting rules established under the motorcycle taxi pilot study.
The TWG has directed Move It to downsize its fleet according to the allocation provided by the government and to cease operations outside its franchise areas such as the cities of Cebu and Cagayan de Oro.
Move It was also required to fully comply with reporting requirements regarding its activation, deactivation, and reactivation of riders.
The sanctions arose from a show cause order issued in December 2024 whereby motorcycle taxi companies were asked to explain allegations of breaching their rider allocations.
Records submitted to the TWG confirmed that Move It was authorized to operate 6,836 motorcycle taxi units, but was found to be operating with at least 14,662 riders—more than double the allowed number.
Additionally, it was determined that Move It had failed to report changes in rider status, a critical compliance requirement.
The TWG noted that these violations have resulted in thousands of unauthorized motorcycle taxis on the road, raising concerns about safety, transparency, and regulatory oversight.
Failure to comply with the directives will result to the firm’s suspension of its operating authority.
Move It expressed concern over the implications of the order, stating that it would displace thousands of its riders, affecting more than 7,800 employees.
“Everyone knows how difficult it is to find public transportation. Are we really going to remove riders at this time?” said Move It general manager Wayne Jacinto in an interview with GMA News.
Jacinto indicated that the company plans to contest the order by filing a motion for reconsideration with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.
