VICE President Sara Duterte has shed light on her decision to support the reelection bid of presidential sister Senator Imee Marcos amid her current rift with President Marcos.
In a talk with reporters Thursday evening in Tondo, Manila, Duterte said Imee consistently fulfils her promises in addressing pressing national issues.
Duterte was the Presidents running mate in the 2022 elections under the UniTeam banner.
“Kilala ko si Sen. Imee since 2012, no? Ah, kilala ko si BBM since 2022 sa kampanya at alam ko kung paano mag-isip, paano magtrabaho si Senator Imee Marcos nakita niyo naman iyon (I knew Senator Imee since 2012 and I knew BBM (Bongbong Marcos) since 2022 during the campaign. And I also knew how he thinks and works),” Duterte said.
The Vice President added that Imee “always has a solution,” even citing the senator’s slogan “IMEEsolusyon.”
“She (Imee) never neglected the country’s problems. Neither did she forget her promises. She always has he solution and she thinks,” Duterte said in Filipino.
In contrast, Duterte scored the Chief Executive for his alleged unfulfilled campaign promise to bring down the price of rice to P20 a kilo.
At the same time, she dismissed remarks by Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Clare Castro that her statements reflected “crab mentality.”
“I do not criticize for criticizing’s sake. I am telling the truth. They are implementing the P20-per kilo rice only now that it is election time again,” Duterte pointed out.
She dismissed Malacañang’s move as “too little, too late.”
Despite their political differences, Duterte clarified that her verbal attacks on President Marcos was not personal, adding that her frustration lies in his failure to deliver on the commitments he made to the Filipino people.
“I am angry because he presented himself as President. He presented himself to run as a candidate for President. And he was voted by the people because of what he said on stage. And he cannot — he cannot deliver on his promises when he was on stage,” Duterte said.
