High level talks tackle Sweden’s mining solutions

Swedish businessmen and the Embassy of Sweden in Manila have hosted a high-level meeting to explore the Scandinavian nation’s advanced clean mining solutions.

Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo Loyzaga led the Philippine delegation, with representatives from the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association and Mindanao State University.

This initiative aims to foster future collaborations for a responsible and sustainable mining industry, addressing climate action priorities. It highlighted these key points, the embassy said in a statement.

It said Sweden produces 90 percent of Europe’s iron ore and leads in the 2024 Global Sustainable Competitiveness Index.

Discussions covered green transition, sustainable mining, disaster risk management, and more, the statement read.

It also said visits to Epiroc headquarters, Falun Copper Mine, Viscaria mine, and LKAB’s Kiruna mine provided valuable insights.

“This mission is particularly significant as Sweden is a global leader in sustainable minerals development. This is also crucial given the global geopolitical shifts and the growing impacts of climate change,” Loyzaga noted.
