The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has condemned illegally imported vape products worth over ₱3.26 billion, citing lack of regulatory approval and safety concerns that render them unfit for public use.
According to customs regulations, such products must be destroyed to protect public health and uphold trade standards.
BOC Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio said the destruction is part of the government’s intensified anti-smuggling campaign, particularly targeting unauthorized vape products. He emphasized that smuggling not only endangers public health but also undermines the integrity of local industries and the domestic market.
These efforts are in line with Section 1146 of Republic Act No. 10863, or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA), which authorizes the disposal of goods under customs custody, including the destruction of prohibited or hazardous items.
“The sustained condemnation of unauthorized vape products exemplifies our determined pursuit of a safer, regulated marketplace—anchored on the principles of integrity, health protection, and good governance,” Rubio added.
