Watsons Philippines is increasing its use of solar energy as part of its sustainability efforts, with more stores and distribution centers now operating on renewable energy, the company said.
Ninety-five Watsons stores and all distribution centers in Luzon and Visayas are currently using solar power, reducing reliance on traditional energy sources. As of December 2024, the initiative has cut 338.32 tons of CO2 emissions, saved 135.74 tons of standard coal, and contributed to the planting of 188 trees, according to the retailer.
Watsons launched its first Greener Store in San Pedro, Laguna, last year, equipped with solar panels to partially power operations. The company has also adopted LED lighting, inverter air conditioners, and energy-efficient refrigerators across its stores to lower energy consumption.
“With 95 stores and all distribution centers now running on solar energy, we are reducing our environmental footprint while setting a benchmark for sustainable retail practices,” said Sharon Decapia, Watsons’ senior assistant vice president for PR, marketing, and sustainability.

Watsons plans to expand its solar program further in 2025, with an additional 30 stores and one more distribution center set to transition to renewable energy.
