The Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) has arrested the mayor South Upi, Maguindanao del Norte who was facing murder charges.
Mayor Reynalbert Insular and his wife were apprehended by a CIDG team based on an arrest warrant issued by the South Cotabato City Regional Trial Court for charges of murder, frustrated murder, and attempted murder.
“Rest-assured that your CIDG is relentless in its fight against wanted persons and fugitives, and steadfast in implementing the law. We urge the other accused to surrender to the CIDG and/or other authorities,” CIDG chief Nicolas Torre III said.
The Insular couple was allegedly involved in the killing of former South Upi Vice Mayor Roldan Benito and his aide Weng Marcos who were ambushed in Barangay Pandan on Aug. 2, 2024.
A special investigation task group has been formed to investigate the crime.
No bail was recommended for the Insulars’ temporary release.
