Antique hog raisers get P5-m financial subsidy

Hog raisers in Antique are taking a major step toward recovery with the help of a P5-million grant under the Swine Artificial Insemination sa Barangay (SWAIB) project, an initiative aimed at restoring sustainable income for communities affected by the African swine fever (ASF).

The Sibalom Livestock and Poultry Raisers Association (SILPRA) Inc. received the  financial assistance through the National Livestock Program, implemented by the Agricultural Training Institute-Western Visayas and the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 6.

“The SWAIB project aims to help hog raisers affected by the African swine fever regain a sustainable source of income,” said Dr. Marco Rafael Ardamil, head of the Public Health Division of the Antique Provincial Veterinary Office.

Under the program, SILPRA was awarded a facility in Barangay Ramon Magsaysay, San Remigio, equipped with animal housing, a laboratory, and 10 high-quality boars to support the use of artificial insemination.
