THE Bureau of Customs (BOC) has intercepted at the Port of Clark in Pampanga a parcel containing Ecstasy tablets, also called “party drugs,” concealed in boxes of candies, along with several non-drug items such as Belgian waffle biscuits worth more than P7.6 million.
The shipment originated from Brussels, Belgium and consigned to a Quezon City resident.
The drugs were discovered following intelligence information from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
Inspection of the dubious shipment revealed seven boxes containing gummy candies, which also concealed 4,491 tablets suspected to be Ecstasy or MDMA.
Chemical analysis conducted by the PDEA confirmed the presence of methylenedioxymethamphetamine, a prohibited drug under the amended Republic Act No. 9165.
“This operation sends a clear and strong message—the Port of Clark will not be a gateway for illegal drugs. Let this be a firm warning to smugglers and consignees attempting to exploit our borders,” Customs district Collector Jairus Reyes said.
