Metro cops intensify crackdown on illegal guns

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has intensified its crackdown on the illegal firearms trade, resulting in the arrest of a suspect during an entrapment operation conducted by the District Special Operations Unit (DSOU) of the Southern Police District (SPD).

The operation occurred in a parking lot along Don Chino Roces Avenue Extension in Barangay Magallanes, Makati City.

The suspect is a 25-year-old student from Quezon City, arrested for the illegal sale of firearms in violation of Republic Act 7166 and the Commission on Elections Resolution 11067 (Gun Ban), which strictly prohibits unauthorized firearm transactions during the election period.

The entrapment operation led to the confiscation of multiple high-powered firearms and accessories, including: One  5.56 Rifle Model SLR-B15 (SLR Rifle Works LLC), one  Cal. 5.7 Ruger Pisto, two  5.56 magazines, two  5.7 magazines loaded with 40 rounds of live ammunition, one black rifle bag used in the transaction, one black sling bag containing the Ruger Pistol, one black inside holster for the Ruger Pistol, 40 rounds of Cal. 5.7 live ammunition, one  iPhone, a 2018 Toyota Corolla Altis, and Assorted identification cards, and the money used in the entrapment.

Upon arrest, the suspect was questioned about the legal documents authorizing the sale of firearms or any Comelec exemption. However, no valid credentials were presented.
