Alsons power unit remits P50m to Maasim

The Sarangani Energy Corporation, a subsidiary of Alsons Power based in Maasim, remitted over P50 million in special taxes to the Maasim Municipal Government during the first three quarters of 2024.

Maasim, Sarangani Vice Mayor Visitacion Nambatac thanked Alsons Power Group, the power business unit of the Alcantara Group, for its pivotal role in driving the municipality’s growth and development over the years.

“These remittances empower us to implement essential projects that benefit our constituents, from infrastructure development to social services,” Nambatac said.

The vice mayor, along with Municipal Treasurer Editha Mamintas, received the check representing the two percent Gross Income Tax (GIT) share from SEC.

SEC, a 237-megawatt state-of-the-art fluidized bed coal-fired power plant, operates within the Kamanga Agro-Industrial Economic Zone (KAIEDC) in Maasim, Sarangani.

Its GIT remittance complies with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority law, which mandates a 2% special tax on the gross income of companies in economic zones, ensuring local communities benefit from these activities.

Nambatac emphasized how SEC’s contributions align with Maasim’s development goals, enabling the local government to fund more projects that improve residents’ quality of life.
