Former Bayan Muna party-list representative Neri Colmenares expressed confidence that the impeachment complaint filed against Vice President Sara Duterte is backed by sufficient evidence and legal merit.
Speaking at a recent forum in Manila, Colmenares noted that several lawmakers from the House of Representatives have supported the complaint, which centers on issues related to the alleged use of P125 million in confidential funds within a span of just eleven days.
He pointed out that the Office of the Vice President has yet to provide a clear explanation on how the funds were disbursed, and added that the responses given during House hearings have so far failed to fully address the matter.
Colmenares maintained that the evidence submitted is enough to support claims of abuse of authority involving public funds. He also signaled his willingness to participate in the 11-member House prosecution panel if appointed by the Speaker, citing his past involvement in the impeachment trial of former Chief Justice Renato Corona.
He further commented on the status of the complaint in the Senate, noting that political considerations may be a factor in its apparent delay. Still, he believes there are enough members in the chamber to move the case forward if they choose to act.
Colmenares emphasized that the issue should be viewed through the lens of public accountability, and called for the process to proceed with fairness and transparency.
