Aboitiz InfraCapital (AIC), the infrastructure arm of the Aboitiz Group, is moving forward with its plans to secure long-term water sustainability in Iloilo City and the whole province after receiving original proponent status (OPS) for its proposed Iloilo Bulk Water Supply Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project.
The OPS was awarded to AIC in a ceremony at Iloilo City Hall on May 15, 2025, marking a key milestone in a well-managed public-private partnership (PPP) process.
“This is a major step forward in strengthening Iloilo’s water security and infrastructure resilience. We are honored by the city’s trust given to us through the OPS, and we are committed to working closely with our partners to co-create a future-ready water system for all Ilonggos,” said AIC president and chief executive Cosette Canilao.
OPS is granted to a proponent of an unsolicited proposal following successful negotiations with the implementing agency.
The process now enters the Swiss Challenge stage, where other qualified parties may submit competing proposals, ensuring transparency and competitiveness.
AIC’s proposed project involves diverting water from a raw source through an intake facility, treating it to potable standards and distributing it to city off-takers.
Designed to supply up to 86 million liters per day (MLD), the project is expected to enhance water reliability and quality, while supporting Iloilo’s economic and population growth.
AIC’s approach emphasizes sustainability and collaboration with local partners, aligning with national and regional development goals.
