NTA assists 2,618 tobacco farmers

The National Tobacco Administration (NTA) said it provided assistance to 2,618 tobacco farmers in Northern Luzon affected by severe weather at the start of the 2024–2025 cropping season.

NTA administrator and chief executive Belinda Sanchez said the program offers immediate relief to farmers struggling to recover from the impact of typhoons and unseasonal rains that hit from November 2024 to early January 2025.

The weather disturbances caused wilting of tobacco seedlings and newly transplanted crops in key tobacco-producing provinces.

The NTA allocated P9 million for the program, including P4 million in direct cash aid and P5 million for purchasing biostimulants.

Deputy administrator for operations Nestor Casela said each affected farmer would receive P1,500 in cash and two liters of biostimulant to support crop recovery.
