San Miguel signs deal to launch 32.7-km C6 Expressway project

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said Monday it expects San Miguel Corp. to complete the first phase of the Southeast Metro Manila Expressway or C6 Expressway within the next two to three years.

DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista said the 32.7-kilometer toll road, also known as Skyway Stage 4, is a combination of elevated and at-grade expressways that would create a much-needed alternate route from Parañaque to Quezon City, bypassing traffic-heavy roads and easing congestion along EDSA and other key corridors.

“With San Miguel Corp. and Philippine National Construction Corp. at the helm, this P45.29-billion project underscores our commitment to long-term solutions for urban mobility,” Bautista said.

Bautista expressed hope the project would be completed in the next two to three years.

San Miguel Holdings Corp. and state-run PNCC signed an agreement to jointly undertake P554-billion expansion of toll roads under their existing joint venture.

Under the agreement, SMHC and PNCC will build San Pedro-C6 Laguna Lake Road, extending the South Luzon Expressway from San Pedro, Laguna and passing along the shores of Laguna Lake and ending at C6 in Taguig.

Other projects are Tanauan-Tagaytay Expressway or Sky 8; TR5 which will extend SLEx from the end of TR4 in Pagbilao, Quezon to Matnog, Sorsogon; Sky 7, which will connect Taguig to Commonwealth Ave. in Quezon City; Buendia Interchange and Ramp Extension to Macapagal Boulevard; and Sky 9 or the Pasig River Alignment which would include ramps to Buendia, Pioneer and Bonifacio Global City.

SMHC and PNCC are the joint venture partners in Citra Central Expressway Corp. and Citra Intercity Tollways Inc., the concession companies of Skyway Stages 3 and 4, respectively.

Through its legislative franchise, PNCC has the authority to construct, maintain and operate SLEx and Skyway Stages 1, 2, 3 and all extensions, linkages or stretches from any part of the existing toll roads.

SMC’s expressways include the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX), the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR), South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), the Skyway System and the NAIA Expressway (NAIAX).
