Watsons opened 80 PH stores in 2024, ended with 1,166

Watsons Philippines, a leading health and beauty retailer under the SM Group, opened 80 stores last year, expanding its store network to 1,166 as of end-2024.

SM Investments Corp. said in a statement more than 50 Watsons stores opened outside Metro Manila as part of its strategy to reach more communities.

The brand also reached a major milestone with the opening of its 8,000th store in Asia at the Mall of Asia.

“The Philippines has been selected for this momentous occasion because it’s one of the fastest-rising economies in Asia and a strategic market for AS Watson. This vibrant and highly potential market has a young demographic that increasingly focuses on health and beauty, aligning perfectly with Watsons’ expertise,” said Dr. Malina Ngai, group chief executive officer of AS Watson Group.

Watsons Philippines has grown significantly since opening its first store in 2002. The company continues to expand across the country, making healthcare and beauty products more accessible to Filipinos.

Watsons opened new stores in key cities in the Visayas and Mindanao in 2024 as part of its strategy to reach more communities.

Watsons customer director Jared de Guzman said the company’s focus is on community pharmacies as a recent study by Bain and Company found that 85 percent of consumers in the Asia-Pacific prioritize healthcare.

“Watsons is not only expanding in malls but is also committed to establishing a strong presence in local neighborhoods. By the end of 2024, we have 400 community stores throughout the Philippines, ensuring accessibility and convenience for our customers,” de Guzman said.

The brand operates over 1,000 Watsons Pharmacy locations, as well as SM Beauty stores in 76 SM malls and LOOK, a multi-brand outlet in select malls.
