Maynilad reports 33% completion of Las Pinas water reclamation site

West zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. (Maynilad) reported progress on its P4.84-billion water reclamation facility (WRF) in Las Piñas City.

The project aims to expand wastewater services and support the rehabilitation of Manila Bay.

It said that at 33-percent completion rate, the Las Piñas WRF is expected to start operations by July 2026.

“Our construction timeline was unfortunately delayed by pandemic restrictions in 2020, but we resumed work in 2023 with renewed focus. This project reinforces our commitment to providing reliable wastewater services for our customers and easing the pollution burden on Manila Bay,”said Maynilad president and chief executive Ramoncito Fernandez.

The facility will treat up to 88 million liters of wastewater daily, benefiting around 360,000 residents across 20 barangays in Las Piñas.

Treated wastewater will be safely discharged into the Zapote River, which flows into Manila Bay, reducing pollution and improving water quality.

Strategically situated in Barangay Pamplona Uno, the facility will employ advanced Anaerobic-Anoxic-Oxic (A2O) technology to remove pollutants effectively.

The facility is designed to comply with the Water Quality Guidelines and General Effluent Standards of 2016 (DAO 2016-08) set by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

The Las Piñas WRF forms part of Maynilad’s broader program to accelerate sewerage and sanitation services across Metro Manila.

The project is funded through partnerships with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP).

Maynilad said that since 2007, it had invested over P46.4 billion to enhance wastewater infrastructure in its concession area.
