The Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM), an attached agency of the Department of Agriculture, launched its first Mobile Soil Laboratory (MSL) Friday at Malacañang Palace.
Housed in a cutting-edge 10-wheeler truck, the MSL can analyze 42 soil parameters. It will initially serve San Ildefonso, Bulacan through the National Soil and Water Resources Research Development Lowland Pedo-Ecological Zone.
Farmers will gain access to accurate soil data, enabling better fertilizer management, improved yields, and increased productivity.
Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. announced plans to acquire 16 additional MSL units for deployment nationwide.
Laurel lauded the BSWM for upgrading its facilities, equipment and training programs to strengthen soil testing services.
He also thanked President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Senator Cynthia Villar for their support for agricultural modernization and sustainability.
The MSL initiative is a key part of the government’s push for precision farming and sustainable practices.
